The Lava Hot Springs Fire & Ice Winterfest is held each year over the first full weekend of February in the quaint resort town of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, famous for its natural spring-fed hot pools. Come, bring your friends and family and celebrate winter!

Friday, February 2, 2024
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: BEER TASTING
Held at Eruption Brewery and Bistro @ 15 N 3rd East (Google Map)
Pay on Site. Hosted by Sam and Leisha Netuschil.
3:30 pm – 6:30 pm: WINE TASTING
Wine Tasting at the Riverside Hot Springs Inn – $40.00 per person
Located at 255 Portneuf Street (Google Map)
Hosted reception style by the Riverside’s Portneuf Grill & Lounge. All net proceeds are contributed to the Greater Lava Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce. Registration includes up to 5 tastings from a selection of varietal wines and a commemorative wine glass. Your favorite bottle(s) will be available for purchase at the conclusion of each session. Reservations are strongly recommended!
3:30 – 4:45 pm: 1st Session Tickets may be available at the door
4:45 – 5:15 pm: Break
5:15 pm – 6:30 pm: 2nd Session FULL!
7:00 pm: LAVA LIBERATED SOUND BATH
Join Phil Dugas at the Lava Community Center 150 N Center St (Google Map) as he presents the Crystal Bowl Lava Liberated Sound Bath. The presentation is the use of crystal bowls to produce sounds and vibrations to support healthy energy and relaxation. Free with donations appreciated.

8:00 am – 11 am: AMERICAN LEGION WAFFLE AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST
Held at the Lava Hot Springs Community Center. 150 N Center St (Google Map)
Waffles, sausage, eggs, juice or coffee.
$7 for 10 and older. $5 for under 10.
All day: PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
by the DJ Wagon at the Beer Garden.
10:00 am: RUNNING OF THE BULLS
Run in your swimming suit down Main Street starting at the Royal Hotel and jump in the State Foundation Pools. Line up starts at 9:00 am on Center and Main Street (Google Map).
Cost is $5:00. Wristband required. Pay at the event.
11:00 am – 1:30 pm: CHILDREN’S WATER CARNIVAL
Held at the Lava Hot Springs Indoor Aquatic Center. There will be games, prizes and water fun. 12 and under are invited to attend this event. This event will be held indoors at the Olympic Swimming Complex at 195 N. Center (Google Map). Sponsored by the Lava Hot Springs Foundation. Info: Call (208) 251-5230.
Cost: FREE for kids AND MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
12:00 pm – 6:00 pm: POLAR BEAR BEER GARDEN
Location has changed! It is at over the bridge in the Lava Foundation East Park at 3rd East and 1st North (Google Map)
Entry Cost: $30.00 includes 1 souvenir stein & 1 beer and (5) chili “tastes”.
Food will be available at the Beer Garden for $15 including barbecue pulled pork sandwich, bag of chips, cookie and water.
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: CHILI COOK-OFF & TASTING
Located in the Beer Garden (until the chili is gone!) 3rd East and 1st North (Google Map)
(5) Tastes are included with the beer garden entry fee. Additional tastes can be purchased for $2.00 each. Pay onsite.
Enter Our Chili Cook-Off!
No Entry Fee Required to Enter Your Chili. Prizes will be awarded to the top three selections as determined by the voting tasters! In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a drawing. Chili Cookoff Entry Rules
1:00 – 2:00 pm: POLAR BEAR COSTUME JUDGING PARTY
Polar Float line up & music! Don your wackiest outfit and line up at the north side of the River Bridge at 3rd East and 1st North streets for the Polar Bear costume contest! Prizes will be awarded! 3rd East and 1st North (Google Map)
2:00 pm: POLAR BEAR FLOAT
Location: Contestants enter the river at the 3rd Street Bridge 3rd East and 1st North (Google Map) and float for ¼ mile down the ice cold Portneuf River to the Community building. See fun photos on Facebook!
Warm up at the Lava Hot Springs Inn hot pools at 94 N Center St (Google Map) immediately after the float. One time entry with wrist bands required.
Cost: $10.00 Entry fee.
Register between 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm at the pavilion at the park. (Note! You will need to bring ID and sign a waiver in order to pick up the tube!)
2:00 pm: QUAFFING CONTEST
- First Beers Fly at 3:30 PM
- $20 Per Team of 4 Quaffers (Pay onsite)
- Team Costumes Encouraged!

Held at the Wagon Wheel Lounge @ 225 Main St (Google Map). Quaffing is a fun game of sliding full beer mugs across a table and catching them by the handle before they hit the ground. As soon as you catch the beer, you have to chug it down immediately. More info on Facebook! Watch a video!
2:00 pm: FIRE & ICE GUZZLE WITH GUS
Held at the Rooftop Bar @ 289 1st Alley N South (Google Map) following the Polar Bear Float. See more info on Facebook!
4:30 pm: PENGUIN RACE FUNDRAISER
Cost: 1 penguin for $5.00, 5 for $20.00.
Plenty of penguins will be plopped dropped into the Portneuf River off the 3rd Street East Bridge 3rd East and 1st North (Google Map) and rescued by the Community Center Building.

If your penguin wins you will be contacted by text, email or phone. You don’t need to be present to win.
DUSK: THE TORCH LIGHT SKI
As the sun sets, look for fire in the sky! Watch local daredevils ski down the “L” Mountain with lit torches (weather permitting). You won’t want to miss this amazing sight.
6:30 pm: FIRE DANCERS
Fire performers from Lava Flow Fire will entertain your family and you through dance, acrobatics, and music as they manipulate flaming objects. Watch a YouTube video.
Located in the Meadows behind the Lava Hotel & Spa. Entrance is at the end of 142 1st Ave E (Google Map) just past River Bridge Inn on the right side of the road.
Cost is $10.00 – Tickets will be available at the event gate.
8:00 pm: FIREWORKS
Look toward the skies for an amazing display! Fireworks will be launched from the north side of the city and will be viewable nearly anywhere in town.
8:30 pm: KIP ATTAWAY
Kip Attaway performance. Returning to Fire and Ice by popular demand, Kip Attaway will entertain you with a combination of comedy and music. Kip will perform at the Lava Hot Springs Community Center. (150 N Center St – Google Map)
Tickets are $25.00 and includes 1-beverage.

Fire & Ice Merchandise will be sold at the Veterans breakfast Saturday morning and in the Beer Garden Saturday afternoon as well as at the Kip Attaway performance Saturday night. Fire and Ice merchandise with original Lava Chamber Fire and Ice logos will be available for purchase “only” through locations established by the Lava Chamber of Commerce at the Fire and Ice Event on February 2nd and 3rd, 2024. The proceeds of all sales are used to support the Chamber and help pay for the event.
